LAGOTTO

Large Abscess

LAGOTTO has come in to is with a very large and painful abscess on his chest as you can see in this picture. This is extremly sore to touch at the moment, even the vet could not get a good look at it. We are currently hoping the antibitoics will help reduce it or it may burst which, whilst not nice, will relieve some pressure. We have also got him some pain relief to help with this is the meantime.

Eye Infection & Irritation

He also has an eye infection that has left his eye clouded over, and a lot of dicharge throughout the day. He has currently got eye drops, eye ointment, and antibiotics to help his eye. His eyelid is curled in slightly meaning that his eyelases are scratching and irritating his eye, and resulted in an infection too that has been there for some time. He may need an operation to help this once the infection is under control.

Badly Infected Tail Pocket

Apologies for the picture. As you can see, LAGOTTO has yet another infection in his tail pocket and anti his bottom also. This is leaking puss and causing him a lot of pain also. Again, we are hopefull the antibitics will help, along with the steroids and pain relief.  This poor boy really is suffering.

Due to all of these infections, he is feeling extremely under the weather. We are not sure how long he has been ill but he is not eating very well, very tired and quiet.

He is extremely skinny for an English Bulldog and our lovely foster home are now trying to help get him to eat some lovely fatty foods to build up his strength. We are hopefuly that pain relief will also help with his appetite and, once the medication has kicked in and started to reduce infection, he may start to become more himself.

Please keep LAGOTTO in your thoughts

HURRICANE

JUNE

Stacey was made aware that HURRICANE and her daughter were being given away for FREE on a site, and not knowing where they may end up, the volunteers stepped in.

Both Hurricane and Hawk (daughter) were overweight and could hardly walk three steps but after an intensive boot camp things were looking up. Hurricane had gone from 27kg to 21kg and we were all delighted but then her foster mum noticed she just wasn't herself for a couple of days so she took her to the vet. The original fear was she had potentially aspirated so was started on antibiotics and steroids but there wasn't much improvement.

Another trip to the vet and we were hit with the devastating news they thought it was her heart and things didn't look good.

She's made it to her heart scan on Wednesday and it's shown she has atrial fibrillation - basically a fancy name for an irregular heartbeat - she also had a lot of fluid in her chest and abdomen showing signs of heart failure.

JULY

We were given a couple of options try some heart meds to try to regulate her heart rate - which was going at a shocking 260 beats per minute on the ECG, the vet wanted to get it down to around the 160 mark still fast but much more manageable or help her cross the bridge.

We decided to try the meds for a few days and re-assess. She was at the vets yesterday and the amazing news is her heart rate was an impressive 137 beats per minute and she's back to being queen bee at home bossing the other dogs about, chasing birds in the garden and most importantly her appetite is back.

It's obvious the medication is working but it's expensive - she needs 4 medications daily to keep her alive - the one heart tablet alone is £300 per month from the vet - we have managed to source her meds cheaper from online with a prescription but for all her meds it will still be approximately £200 to £250 per month - this is addition to regular reviews, heart scans, ECGs and bloods.

AUGUST

Thanks to our kind followers, we recieved a lot of donations towards HURRICANE's medication and vet bills, as well as auction items that made a great amount for her too!  The pills are really helping her heart and she is almost like a puppy again!

She is back to being queen bee in the house - Hawk, Wedgetail and Atlas all know I am the boss.

We went to the beach few days ago it was so much fun running around in the sand with them.

So a HUGE thank you from HURRICANE, her foster mum and t,every single on of the Paws of Hope team for saving my life you are all amazing!
